Finding out what makes HFL different

Finding out what makes HFL different

28 May 2024

One of our core values at HFL is caring for one another, taking action and offering support. We sat down with some of our staff members to find out what they enjoy about working here.

At HFL we understand that taking care requires effort, not just intention. We actively support each other to make HFL the best place to work. It’s not a box ticking exercise, it’s a culture created from a genuine care for the health and wellbeing of the company’s greatest assets – its people.

Adelaide Allen has been at HFL for just over a year. She joined from an HR role with the States of Guernsey and enjoyed it so much that she wanted to move to a company where she could develop further.

‘HFL has supported me in starting my professional qualification (CIPD Level 3) and put in goals and a framework to help me develop and grow in HR,’ she said.

‘HFL offers flexibility for everyone in various ways, they allow me to go to the gym at lunch taking a longer lunch and just work back my hours by staying later or coming in earlier. It’s the little things like this that can make a change to your day.’

Adelaide, who is a People & Culture Administrator, added that the office is a friendly, welcoming place to be.

‘By being a smaller, family-owned company, I find you notice the difference compared to a big company. Your ideas, work, and the impact you make are valued. Also ideas and new ways of thinking are always welcomed.’

Senior Office Administrator, Michelle Mauger, loves the variety of her role at HFL.

‘We have grown significantly since I started at HFL, with only 13 staff when I joined. We are now 50-plus. I think this growth speaks for itself how successful the company is and what an amazing reputation we have,’ said Michelle, who says working at HFL makes her feel valued.

‘We all work hard and HFL makes sure we are rewarded for our efforts with socials, rewards, and treat days, whether it be pizzas, chocolates, or ice-creams.’

Kristy Webber joined HFL as a Trust Administrator 11 years ago and was quickly promoted to Senior Administrator. Now Senior Manager, Kristy appreciates the flexibility and understanding HFL has given her.

‘I have had two lots of maternity leave whilst being at HFL and have felt supported throughout and on my returns. A lot of employees have young families, and it is very evident that HFL supports working parents,’ she said.

‘At HFL you are not just a number. Opinions are listened to and taken on board. Any ideas on improving the business are acted on quickly. Being family-owned and run, you know who you are working for, and we in turn then become a ‘family’ in ourselves.’
